What happens to the details you send me.
This describes what this website actually does with your information. It covers the audit request form, the records my server keeps, and how to have your details removed.
Who this is
This site is run by Max Gledhill, a software developer based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. For anything on this page, email uzboth.max@gmail.com.
What the audit form collects
When you request a Business Leak Audit, the form collects the details you type into it: your name, your email address, your phone number if you choose to give one, the name of the business, its website address if you give one, and your answers to the questions about what the business does, the repetitive task that frustrates you most, where your enquiries come from and what you would fix first. The date and time are recorded with it.
That is the whole form. I do not ask for your turnover, your staff numbers or anything else you would not expect to tell someone you were asking for advice.
Your answers are stored twice: once as the enquiry itself, and once as separate answers so that, over time, I can see which problems come up most often across the businesses I hear from. That second copy is used only to understand which problems are common. It is never published, and nothing identifying a business is ever shared from it.
What else the server records
- Web server logs. Like almost every website, the server that hosts this site keeps standard request logs, which include the IP address the request came from, the page requested and the browser used.
- Spam protection. When you submit the form, the server holds the IP address the submission came from in its own memory for up to half an hour, so a script cannot send the form over and over. It is not written to the database and it is discarded automatically.
- Error records. If something goes wrong while the site is running, a technical record of the fault is stored so I can fix it. It describes what failed, not who you are.
What I use it for
To look into what you have told me, reply to it, and keep track of the conversation and any work that follows from it. I do not send marketing, I do not add you to a mailing list, and I do not share, sell or pass your details to anyone else.
Where it is kept
Enquiries are stored in a database on the hosting I use for this site, and I read them through a password-protected area that only I can sign in to. The company that provides the hosting handles the data as part of running the server for me; nobody else has access.
Cookies, analytics and tracking
There is no analytics on this site, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no social media trackers. The fonts are served from this site rather than from a font provider, so simply reading a page does not send a request to anyone else. The public pages do not set any cookies, which is why you are not being asked to accept any.
The one exception is the “Live preview” button on some of the work examples. Pressing it loads that client’s own website inside the frame, so from that point your browser is also talking to their site, under their privacy notice rather than mine. Nothing is loaded from another site until you press the button.
How long I keep it
I keep enquiries for as long as they are useful — to do the work, to answer a question about it later, or to keep an ordinary business record. If you would like yours removed sooner, ask me and I will delete it.
Your choices
You can ask me for a copy of what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email uzboth.max@gmail.com and I will deal with it. If you are ever unhappy with how I have handled your information, you can raise it with the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
